Exciting times are ahead! The St Oswald’s Governing Board have appoint ‘GRT Architecture’ based in Wirksworth to plan and design the first phase which was approved by cabinet members in July with a budget of £1.4 million. The fist phase includes;
- the building of 3 classrooms
- the creation of an out door space for children to continue to do sports, forest schools, etc…
- re-wiring the school
- disability access.
What has happened in September; The land has been transferred from agricultural use to educational use. the footpath is on track to be diverted. A meeting will be held with Derek Trowell from GRT architecture to plan the layout of the land and the designs will be published on the school website in due course. The land will be fenced off within the next month.
October 2017- Updates for you! We now have initial plans designed by GRT Architects. These will be available to view at school at the Open day on Saturday 14th October and during the parents Evenings on Tuesday 17th and Thursday 19th October. A Quantity Surveyor and Project Manager has been appointed to work alongside the project to ensure that the everything runs as smoothly as possible. To enable us to teach and the children to experience a wide range of Sport we are using the facilities at the Leisure Centre 2 afternoons a week. this enables the children to experience all types of Physical education and games.
Our Initial designs can be seen here on the PDF; SECTION-min
We want to stress to all families that these initial designs and may be subject to change!
Well, I am sure all of you are wondering what the next phase is for the building work that we are planning! Lots of work has been going on behind the scenes with GRT Architects, Nigel Winter (our Quantity Surveyor) and ourselves.
Footpath Diversion; Firstly the footpath that leads from Mayfield Road to Dark Lane has received the permission to be diverted. This footpath will now follow a different route and will not pass through the land that we have acquired for our playing fields. While the diversion of the footpath has been agreed in principle and an application will be submitted shortly detailing the new footpath treatment so work can start on this, all being well, in spring.This is fantastic news and will now enable us to progress with the plans for the outdoor space which the children will be able to use all year round.
Classrooms; To ensure that we have plans that will be accepted by planners, conservationists, environmentalists, historical building representatives we held an Independent review called an OPUN review in December. They looked at all aspects of the design, the plan for the outdoor space and the buildings. The outcome of this OPUN review was overwhelmingly in favour of our plans for the school.
Finally, the plans for buildings will be submitted this week to planners and we are awaiting the outcome but this is positive.
Our next step is to appoint the contractors who will deliver the work.
The Plans have been submitted for planning consent. They are detailed below.
GRT Architects will be in school from 2.30pm until 4.30pm on Tuesday 20th February if you would like to view the plans and speak to our Architects.
The Architects visited the school- we found out about their job and looked at all the plans. We had a go at being an architect too by creating a 3d model of our new play space!
The land adjacent to the school which will be used as our play space has been marked out. Photos can be seen below!
