Welcome to the 2025/2026 Year 1 Class page!
Welcome back, we hope you have had a great Shrovetide and are looking forward to a fantastic new term of learning. Our new Spring 2 term topic is 'Paws Claws and Whiskers'. This Geography / Science project develops children's knowledge about domestic pets and wild animals together with carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. We will be sharing lots of stories, starting with 'The Tiger that came to tea' and will write our own character description.
All of our learning is linked to books suitable for pupils' age and stage and to encourage reading for pleasure. We concentrate on a book each week; this term we are reading 'Dear Zoo' and 'Dear Greenpeace'. We will also be focusing on the traditional tales 'Puss in Boots' and 'The Emperor's new clothes'.
In PE this term, we will be concentrating on ball skills and this will continue on a Tuesday and Thursday; please make sure your child comes to school with a P.E. kit, which will remain at school until the end of the half-term.
Please continue to listen to your child read their phonic book daily (which is levelled at their current phonics stage) and share their reading for pleasure book. Please also sign the reading record. Children reading red and yellow phonic books will have a bookmark (kept in school) and will take part in the reading reward scheme where daily readers can earn a Bronze, Silver and Gold reading reward badge.
Please find attached at the bottom of the page our learning overview for this half-term together with the curriculum overview for the year.
