Welcome to the 2025/2026 Year 1 Class page!
Happy New Year, we hope you have had a lovely Christmas break and are looking forward to a fantastic new term of learning. Our new Spring 1 term topic is 'Bright Lights Big City'. This Geography / History project develops children's knowledge about our capital city London and its famous landmarks. We will be sharing lots of stories about London and will write our own journey tale. We will also be learning about the Great Fire of London and the History Van will be joining us to learn about this history event.
All of our learning is linked to books suitable for pupils' age and stage and to encourage reading for pleasure. We concentrate on a book each week; this term we are reading 'Paddington at the Palace', 'Paddington at St. Pauls', 'Katie in London' and 'Romeo's view of the shard'. We will also be focusing on the traditional tales 'Rapunzel' and Dick Whittington.
PE (dance) will continue this term on a Tuesday and Thursday; please make sure your child comes to school with a P.E. kit, which will remain at school until the end of the half-term.
Please continue to listen to your child read their phonic book daily (which is levelled at their current phonics stage) and share their reading for pleasure book. Please also sign the reading record. Children reading red and yellow phonic books will have a bookmark (kept in school) and will take part in the reading reward scheme where daily readers can earn a Bronze, Silver and Gold reading reward badge.
Please find attached at the bottom of the page our learning overview for this half-term together with the curriculum overview for the year.
