Year 2
Welcome to Year 2!
Miss Gill- Class Teacher
Mrs Shearer- Teaching Assistant
Mrs Roper- Midday Supervisor
Welcome back!
We hope you all had a super, restful holiday, and we are looking forward to another half-term of fun!
This half-term our topic is called Tunnels and Turrets, where children will be given the opportunity to learn about castles. Please see the Curriculum overview for this half term.
This half-term PE will be on a Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning from the Spring Term. Please ensure that all PE kits are returned to school and these will be sent home at the end of each half-term to be washed. During the Autumn Term the children will continue to develop their swimming skills and go swimming.
Homework - Homework will continue to be set on a Friday. It should then be returned to school by the following Thursday so that it can be marked and feedback can be given. Please encourage your child to complete their homework as independently as possible. If there are any issues regarding homework, please come and see me and I will be happy to assist you.
Times Tables - In Year 2 we will be learning to count in 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s. It is advised that you practice your child’s timetables as much as possible to aid mathematical development and fluency.
Reading– Please encourage your child to read every night for approximately 10minutes. This then needs to be recorded in your child’s reading record. In class, we will check all reading records and issue stamps to those children that read. Children will be sent home with a phonic book (which is levelled at their current phonics stage) and a Reading for Pleasure book, which is to be read and shared with parents. In Year 2 we promote a love for reading, and it is a way of improving reading, writing and imagination skills.
In the event you did not attend the Meet the Teacher meeting, please see the PowerPoint presentation attached below.
Please see the curriculum plan attached below which will provide you with an insight into what your child will be learning throughout the academic year.
Please continue to check our page on a regular basis as it will be updated throughout the year.
