Welcome to the 2025/2026 Year 1 Class page!

Welcome back, we hope you have had a great sunny May half term break and are looking forward to a fantastic new term of learning. Our new Summer 2 term topic is 'Rio'. This Geography / Art project develops children's knowledge about the seven continents, five oceans and the country Brazil in South America. We will be sharing lots of stories, starting with 'Jabuti the tortoise' and will write our own character descriptions.

All of our learning is linked to books suitable for pupils' age and stage and to encourage reading for pleasure. We concentrate on a book each week; this term we are reading 'Two can Toucan', 'We're Roaming in the Rainforest' and 'The Frog Olympics'. We will also be focusing on the traditional tales 'The tortoise and the Hare' and 'The princess and the pea'.

In PE this term, we will be concentrating on athletics and practising for sports day, which takes place on Thursday 18th June. PE will continue on a Tuesday afternoon; please make sure your child comes to school with a P.E. kit, which will remain at school until the end of the half-term.

We will also continue swimming on Friday mornings (except for Friday 26th June, the sponsored walk). Please make sure your child has their swimming kit with them on this day, which is to include a full swimming costume (no bikinis) or swim shorts (above the knee) together with a towel and swimming cap.

Please continue to listen to your child read their phonic book daily (which is levelled at their current phonics stage) and share their reading for pleasure book. Please also sign the reading record. Children reading red and yellow phonic books will have a bookmark (kept in school) and will take part in the reading reward scheme where daily readers can earn a Bronze, Silver and Gold reading reward badge.

Please find attached at the bottom of the page our learning overview for this half-term together with the curriculum overview for the year.
