Miss Hicklin - Student Teacher

Mrs Bott - Midday Supervisor

Mrs Shearer - Cover for Class Teacher - Wednesday afternoon.

Welcome to the Year 1 Class page. We hope that you have all had a lovely and relaxing Shrovetide break.

Our topic for the Spring 2 half-term is 'Paws Claws and Whiskers'. This Art, design and Science project develops children's knowledge of wild animals and pets and in Art, shape, colour, patterns and textures.  They will explore herbivores, omnivores and carnivores together with amphibians, reptiles, mammals and insects.

We will continue to learn about the four seasons and the different weather and we will be writing character descriptions, invitations and instructions based on the story 'The tiger who came for tea'.

All of our learning is linked to books suitable for pupils' age and stage and to encourage reading for pleasure. We concentrate on a book each week; this term we are reading 'Dear Zoo', 'Dear Greenpeace' and the traditional tales 'Puss In Boots' and 'The Emperor's New Clothes'.

Homework will continue this term and will include Maths and English work (alternated each week) together with letter and number formation. Homework will be sent out each Friday to be returned by the following Thursday.

Please find attached at the bottom of the page our learning overview for this half-term together with the curriculum overview for the year.

In the event you did not attend the Meet the Teacher meeting, please see the PowerPoint presentation attached below.

Reading: We expect children to read every evening to an adult for about ten minutes every day and parents must sign the reading record. Children will be sent home with a phonic book (which is levelled at their current phonics stage) and a Reading for Pleasure book, which is to be read and shared with parents.

PE; P. E will take place on a Monday and Wednesday afternoon. PE kits are to be brought into school and will remain in school until the end of the half-term.

Please keep checking the website and Instagram for notices and to see photographs of the different things we have been up to during the school day!
