Welcome to Year 2!
Miss Fowell Mrs Shearer Mrs Maznenko Mrs Harrison Mrs Morgan
This half-term our topic is called 'Street Detectives' where the children will be given the opportunity to learn about their local community and the key features that are within Ashbourne. They are also going to be writing diary entries based on our class book 'On the way home'. PE will continue to be held every Wednesday and this half-term the children will be learning bat and ball skills and improving their hand-eye co-ordination throughout a variety of sports. For more information regarding this half-term learning, please see the spring term overview that is linked below.
Homework - Your child will receive a piece of Maths or English homework; this will be set on a Friday. This homework should then be returned to school by the following Thursday so that it can be marked and feedback can be given. Please encourage your child to complete their homework as independent as possible. If there are any issues regarding homework please come and see me and I will be happy to assist you.
Times Tables - In Year 2 we will be learning to count in 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s. It is advised that you practice your child’s timetables as much as possible to aid mathematical development and fluency.
Reading– Please encourage your child to read every night for approximately 5-10minutes. This then needs to be recorded in your child’s reading record. In class, we will check all reading records and issue raffle tickets to those children who have read at least 3 times a week. This will then give your child the opportunity to possibly earn a reward at the end of the week. In Year 2 we promote a love for reading, and it is a way of improving reading, writing and imagination skills.
Please see the curriculum plan attached below which will provide you with an insight of what your child will be learning throughout the academic year.
Please continue to check our page on a regular basis as it will be updated throughout the year.
