Welcome to our Year 5 class page!

This year, Miss Birt will teach Year 5 on Monday, Tuesday, Weds morning and Thursday morning. Miss Austin will be the class teacher on Weds afternoon, Thursday afternoon and Fridays. We will be joined by Mrs Morgan, our general class TA, each morning and Mrs Beresford for PE on a Wednesday afternoon. Mrs Blundell, Miss Smith and Dr Collinge will work within the class as specific teaching and learning support assistants and Mrs Roper is our Midday Supervisor.

Our topic for Summer 1 is Scream Machine. Please find the overview of our learning for this half term attached at the bottom of the page, along with the knowledge organiser for the topic. We also have a very exciting trip planned to Alton Towers this half term! You will also find here the curriculum overview for the full academic year and our 'Welcome to Year 5' PowerPoint which will provide you with some important information about the year ahead.

Homework: Your child will receive a piece of Maths and English homework each week in their CGP booklets (set on a Friday). Details of the weekly homework will be written in your child’s reading record so please ensure these are in school everyday. Homework should be returned to school by the following THURSDAY so that we can mark it. Please support and encourage your child to do their homework as independently as they can, completed neatly in pencil or blue/black biro.

Spellings: We are no longer doing weekly spelling tests, spellings and spelling rules are taught throughout the week but any additional practise of spelling rules taught in school and common exception words will be beneficial.

Times Tables: We are no longer doing weekly times table tests but by Year 5 we expect that children are fluent in all tables. Please keep practising on Times table Rockstars using your individual login.

Reading: Please encourage your child to read as often as possible at home. We will check to see if reading records have been signed each week. We expect every pupil to read with and adult and have a minimum of 3 SIGNATURES A WEEK ON DIFFERENT DAYS in their reading record.

PE Days:  We have PE on a Wednesday afternoon at the Leisure Centre. Children are allowed to come to school in their PE kit on Wednesdays but please remember no earrings, watches or Fitbits are allowed and long hair needs to be tied up. Children will be dismissed from the Leisure Centre at 3:15 where you can either collect them or they can walk home provided we have a signed letter of consent.

Snacks/Drinks:

Your child can bring a healthy snack to school to eat at break-time – please send in fruit or vegetable snacks only. They can also bring in a drinks bottle filled with water only.
